Common Computer Application Shortcut Keys

If you are already accustomed to using various software and computer application programs with a graphical interface, you will find that the menu structure and basic functions are generally the same. In fact, you can operate any GUI (Graphical User Interface) application using the same shortcut keys. Even if you are working on different computer operating systems.

By understanding the similarities of the functions of the operation command, and memorize the same shortcut keys, you will be able to quickly master a new computer application and can work faster with that software.



Here is a list of common shortcut keys in computer application and the description of its function:
  • F1: View the Help or User Guide of the program.
  • Alt + F: File menu options in current program.
  • Alt + E: Edit options in current program.
  • Ctrl + A: Select all text.
  • Ctrl + C: Copy selected item.
  • Ctrl + Ins: Copy selected item.
  • Ctrl + X: Cut selected item.
  • Shift + Del: Cut selected item.
  • Ctrl + V: Paste the selected item that have been copied or cut.
  • Shift + Ins: Paste the selected item that have been copied or cut.
  • Home: Goes to beginning of current line.
  • Ctrl + Home: Goes to beginning of document.
  • End: Goes to end of current line.
  • Ctrl + End: Goes to end of document.
  • Shift + Home: Highlights from current position to beginning of line.
  • Shift + End: Highlights from current position to end of line.
  • Ctrl + Left arrow: Moves one word to the left at a time.
  • Ctrl + Right arrow: Moves one word to the right at a time.
